Tyler photo causes a stir
Written by Becca Manning

When Chuck Slavin recognized Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler during a recent stop at Pembroke Center Liquors, he was just thrilled to meet the man and to get a photo with him.

Then the photo, along with rough video his buddy took on his cell phone, made its way around the Web and Slavin’s celebrity sighting became an online sensation.

First appearing on the Boston Globe site, the photo has been picked up by celebrity gossip sites all over the Web, including TMZ.com — a site notorious for posting candids of celebrities, often not in their best moments.

Tyler’s stop in Pembroke on Thursday, Aug. 13, was one of his first public sightings since he suffered a broken shoulder after falling from a stage in Sturgis, S.D. on Aug. 5.

In the picture he took with Slavin, Tyler is wearing his arm in a sling.

“I just happened to be in there and he was in there. It was pretty cool,” Slavin said. “I asked him how he was feeling and he said he was doing well.”

Slavin, who recently moved back to Pembroke after spending time in Los Angeles, is a full-time actor in the Boston area. He said Tyler seemed like a “great guy.”

“I do a lot of acting and I’ve met a lot of celebrities, and he’s definitely one of the most humble,” Slavin said. “He was really cool to me.”

Slavin sent the photo to the Globe and to the Express shortly after it was taken, and from there, he said, it just exploded.

“It’s been all over the place. It really happened fast,” he said of both the picture and his buddy’s video, which was posted on YouTube. “I was kind of like, should I pull it down?  I just though it was cool that he had some video and now it has like 80,000 hits.”

Slavin said his run-in with Tyler was all positive and that he felt a little bad seeing some of the comments posted with the picture and video.

The photo has been the subject of several posts on TMZ.com, with comments comparing Tyler’s look to that of Vogue editor Anna Wintour and questioning Tyler’s liquor store run on the day Aerosmith cancelled the rest of its summer tour. YouTube viewers also have had some not-so-nice things to say in their posts.

Slavin said he didn’t want to comment on Tyler’s business and was still struggling with whether he should remove the video.

“I’m still fighting between the good guy on my shoulder and the bad guy — am I going to take it down or keep it up,” he said. “There’s no road map for this stuff. Sometimes you do something and you don’t know what’s going to happen.”

In a way, he said, he “put Pembroke Center Liquors” on the national map.

“I got e-mails from people from all over, from Ohio,” Slavin said. “I don’t think they’ll be shopping down there, but it was all over the place.”

Tyler, who owns a home in Marshfield, was reportedly on his way to a funeral when he stopped by the local store.

The owner of Pembroke Center Liquors was not available for comment, though an employee did say someone from TMZ.com had been calling to dig up some dirt on Tyler’s liquor store visit.

Mr. Slavin does "a lot of acting"? WHERE? in his living room? No one has ever seen him on a movie set. Ever.
He is a publicity hound , plain and simple, this being his latest attempt at attention.
He doesn't care about the repercussions for Tyler, as long as he gets the publicity so people think he is some busy actor.

Did Mr. Slavin ever say he saw Steven Tyler buying booze? Also I just saw him in a Trailer for "The Maiden Heist".

Heath's comment that Slavin owns a home and is making a living. Please the article said he moved back to Pembroke, it says nothing about owning a home. And how do you know he's making a living. What have you seen him in recently besides this picture. He used Steven Tyler for his own ill-gotten gains. Shame Shame Slavin. smilies/angry.gif I'd say apologize to Steven, but it would only get you more publicity, which is what you were looking for in the first place. You saw an opportunity to take advantage of someone's bad day (funeral)and you went with it.

Mr. Slavin should be ashamed of himself and his friend. I know for a fact that ST does not partake in the things he has been accused of. He was at the Pembroke Liquor store to help out a friend who's relative had passed away, and he was just trying to help out after the funeral. He was not there for himself but being a good friend, along for the ride. He was nice enough to take a picture with Mr. Slavin, he should have been grateful and let it go at that. Instead he couldn't wait to get it out there to the Globe, You Tube, TMZ. The so-called actor just wanted to take advantage of the situation to benefit himself and cash in on someone elses misery. He owes ST a public apology for using him. What goes around, comes around, and hopefully his career just went bye-bye. No one in the business is going to trust him. "Struggling" I don't think so. You couldn't wait to get it out there for your own self indulgence. If you were really struggling with the whole situation, you would have done it. Your the reason celebrities are so hesitant to deal with the public when they are out in private. Most of the people I have spoken to find you very despicable. Guess L.A. knew something we didn't. Good luck in your career. NOT !!!!!!

If you all really cared about ST you would be trying to get him into REHAB. Get better Steven and stop canceling the tours!

Isn't there anything else going on in Pembroke than worrying about what people do for a living? He is paying the bills, are you?

Your all making too much of Slavins role in this.
Who would think that a picture of Steven Tyler in a liquor store would be making this much of a fuss. Slavin appears totally innocent and just a fan, cut it out ya all.

I'm happy Chuck has this out there! If you're a fan (people writing comments)of ST wouldn't you WANT to know what he is up to? Wouldn't you want to know how he's doing? It's no secret that ST has struggled with drug and alcohol abuse! As a fan, I want to know if he's sober. Oh, and smarties, you can make a steady living doing extra work. I said steady. The article states Chuck owns a home. Can't pay the mortgage without $ and you get $$ from a job. Do you get it now?

Chuck is one of the most helpful guys I know in the business. He is always willing to give advice to Actors starting out. He runs a group on FaceBook and is a leader in New England Film. There must be more to this story!

Chuck I hope you get what you have coming cause you deserve it.

I've been lucky enough to meet ST several times and never in your life could you ask for a more positive wonderful experience from someone you admire. He takes the time to look straight at you as if YOU are the important one in the conversation and gives you 100% of his attention. How rare is that in this world today that an icon would care that much about his fans?

Everyone knows his battles (how many of us have our own) and your attention mongering for your "career" is going to pay off as it should. You will never be trusted by anyone because you are a mean spirited attention seeking NARC.

An extra in the film of life who has already been forgotten.

Why would you take such a positive experience (meeting S.T. and having him be really cool to you) then take the photo to the Globe (and wherever else)? He is obviously a living legend in Boston and world-wide. We all know the guy has struggles with drugs and alcohol. It is part of what makes his S.T. Why would you you degrade such a great icon? Because he was cool to you? Take it down,LOSER,the shots of you stink it up!You look like crap Chuck!

leave poor Steven Tyler alone.........you should look at your self you idiot Slavin
It would be amazing that Boston Casting Cpcasting Rpm casting or any movie company anywhere would trust you to be on set any more!!!!

A lot of acting? Chuck? He's an extra who's never had an acting job beyond acting like he thinks he's an actor.
Who'd want him on a set after this?
Struggle all you want: you posted it on YouTube and you didn't take it down.
This was not a good idea for your "career".
