Senate President Therese Murray encourages constituents to participate in the 19th Annual Better Government Competition, sponsored by the nonprofit public policy research group Pioneer Institute. This yearly competition looks to encourage ideas from the public for improving government. The theme for the 2010 competition is Governing in Times of Crisis, with a focus on budget management and savings. “Getting the citizens of the Commonwealth more involved in thinking about the work of government and public service is a core piece of what Pioneer is about,” said Jim Stergios, Executive Director of Pioneer Institute.Entries can describe proven programs that have recently been implemented or innovations not yet undertaken. The proposal deadline is March 29. The winner will receive a $10,000 prize and each runner-up receives a $1,000 prize. The prizes will be presented at the BGC Awards Dinner in June. For more information about the competition, visit pioneerinstitute.org/bgc or call Shawni Littlehale at 617-723-2277 x207.
