Second house broken into on Congress St.
Thursday, 04 February 2010 11:37

Less than a week after someone broke into a Congress Street home and stole five licensed handguns, a second home on Congress Street has been broken into, this time with jewelry taken.

Police are investigating the incident, which occurred sometime before 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28. As in the first incident, the resident returned home to find the door smashed in and items rummaged through. As of Tuesday, police did not know the value of the jewelry taken, according to Pembroke Police Lt. Mike Jenness.

Jenness said officers had been around the neighborhood talking with residents to warn them about the two recent break-ins and remind them to secure their vehicles and homes before leaving for the day.

“We’re also asking that if anyone sees any suspicious or unknown persons in the neighborhood to let us know so we can keep an eye on what’s going on up there,” he said.

In the first break-in, which occurred on Saturday, Jan. 23, the burglar smashed in a rear door and broke into five separate lock boxes, taking the handguns that were inside.
